Pingflux gets the seal of approval from Indie Start Ups!
Newcomers Stitch Games among those who have expressed their delight
with Setgo’s game analytics solution

LIVERPOOL, England – October 31st, 2012 – Everyone at Setgo is a fan of the independent games industry and their developers, so naturally, we are extremely happy to hear praise of our platform-agnostic analytics solution Pingflux from some the industry’s upcoming starlets.

Stitch Games and mobile app developer Tom Cooper are just two of the independent games industry’s hopefuls that have offered up testimonials in regards to their satisfaction with the service Pingflux has performed on their games.

Both began using the analytics solution in July ’12 and have since then seen their respective products well received in the press and by the buying public

Stitch Games were last month featured in Playboy’s Gadget Geek’s Guide to September Gaming Apps for their 2012 US Election Beat ’em Up themed “Fightocracy 2012”. Whilst Tom Cooper’s mobile release Soldier Ants 2 was met with considerable praise and is racking up 5-star reviews on the App Store.

Cian Roche, of Stitch Games said: “Pingflux provided a much broader and detailed view of our user base than we were able to obtain previously. Without it we would have missed information that proved crucial to the understanding of our audience.”

Tom Cooper said: “It’s totally hassle free analytics, 5 minutes to integrate into my app and watching live data a few moments later. The support staff is really friendly and responsive. The data filters let me extract masses of answers with a tiny number of changes to my code”.

Clemens Wangerin, Managing Director, spoke of his delight to hear such high recommendation of Pingflux when he said: We are firm believers that the ability to understand more about how players are interacting with your mobile apps is of utmost importance in today’s market, especially for Indies who are already battling to be discovered in an increasingly crowded space.”

He continued, “Access to only top-level metrics or sales figures never unveils the full picture of a games’ performance. Through Pingflux both of these developers are building an unrestricted view of their players’ activities. They are able to examine their data at their own pace and in much greater detail than before, giving them better insights to shape their plans going forward.”

Pingflux SDK for Unity launches with first client!
Onteca confirmed as first developer to use SDK for latest development
platform to be supported by truly platform agnostic Pingflux.

LIVERPOOL, England – 29th October, 2012 – Setgo is delighted to announce that Pingflux now has its own Unity SDK, which is officially available for our customers to use. At the same time, we can also confirm that we have secured a new client who’s the first to make use of the SDK.

Onteca, an independent games development studio based in Liverpool, will be taking advantage of our brand-new Unity SDK and will be using Pingflux for their multi-platform game “Cannon Defence: American Civil War Edition”, available on iOS and Android.

Established in 2001, Onteca have registered an impressive 3 million downloads across all their games to date and develop casual and free-to-play titles across different consoles and formats, including Nintendo Wii, iOS and Android. The company has previously found success with titles such as: Santa Tracker, Draw with Powertools, Countdown to Christmas and the Big Pub Quiz.

Jon Wetherall, managing director at Onteca said: “Onteca have used a number of analytics tools in our games over the last two years but only since using Pingflux have we really started to get a deep understanding of our users”.

“With the Pingflux Unity 3D plugin we were easily able to integrate analytics into the Android and iOS versions of our popular game. The data we can track and the depth of understanding we can reach about our product is totally amazing”.

Clemens Wangerin, Managing Director at Pingflux, commented: “Unity 3D is clearly a very popular choice amongst a wide range of developers, especially because of its cross-platform capabilities. It was therefore only natural for us to offer developers using that platform a simple and easy way to integrate Pingflux, so that their ability to track player behaviour through analytics was handled as effectively and elegantly as the rest of the tools they were using to make their games.”

This is a clear example of a client whose requirements truly play into the genuine cross-platform nature which the Pingflux analytics solution is dedicated to. While Pingflux has already found popular success with its service, the addition of a Unity SDK will only see that popularity rise in the near future. Customers who are interested in signing up for our new Unity SDK can register at www.pingflux.com

The North West Fund for Digital & Creative invests in Setgo

Strength of management team, brilliant technology skills and excellent reputation with customers and partners secures six figure investment.

LIVERPOOL, England – June 1, 2012 – The North West Fund for Digital & Creative, managed by AXM Venture Capital Limited, has made a six-figure equity investment into Setgo Ltd, a Liverpool-based developer of analytics software and technology for the computer games industry.

Setgo’s Analytics software tracks player behaviour in games, analyses that behaviour and provides game developers with insights that help them optimise engagement, retention and monetisation of their online games.

Setgo was founded in 2010 by Clemens Wangerin, Jason Chown and Christian Lavoie. All three were previously senior directors at Sony Computer Entertainment’s Studio Liverpool, where Clemens also held the position of Director of PlayStation Network.

The investment from The North West Fund for Digital & Creative, which is part of the £185m North West Fund financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the European Investment Bank, will support Setgo’s software development and roll-out to its customers.

Managing Director Clemens Wangerin said: “Digital distribution, games played online and new business models like Free-To-Play will be the biggest drivers of the games industry going forward.” He continued “Powerful analytics software, which provides real-time insights into player behaviour, is absolutely vital for developers to make the Free-To-Play model a success. Setgo Analytics provides the most flexible solution in this space and is already in use by several of our Tier 1 Partners.”

Joanne Evans, investment manager of AXM Venture Capital, added “Setgo’s management team is one of the best we’ve seen. They have a deep understanding of the games industry, a great reputation with their customers and partners and, most importantly of all, brilliant technology skills right at the core of the business. This has enabled them to build world-beating software.”

Andy Leach, chief executive of North West Business Finance Limited, the not for profit company that manages the North West Fund, said “The Merseyside games sector and the inherent skills base it has developed was always a key factor in our decision to establish a dedicated Digital & Creative sub fund. The opportunity to support the growth of businesses with outstanding prospects such as Setgo justifies that decision.”

Setgo is based in Liverpool’s emergent creative district, the Baltic Triangle.

Unique flexibility of Setgo Analytics secures mobile publisher Connect2Media

Deal with leading publisher of digital entertainment on mobile platforms marks
expansion into mobile market for Setgo’s platform agnostic games analytics software.

LIVERPOOL, England – March 12th, 2012 – Setgo today announced that Connect2Media, a leading mobile publisher, joined the early access programme for Setgo Analytics as a Tier 1 Technology Partner. Under the terms of the agreement, Connect2Media will track and analyse player behaviour in forthcoming Freemium games for Android and other mobile platforms using Setgo Analytics.

Setgo’s focus on providing an analytics solution that gives developers and publishers a unique level of flexibility and customisation, regardless of which online platform they choose to adopt, is proving to be an attractive proposition. As more and more games companies realise the importance of tracking and measuring player behaviour, they are looking for a solution that empowers them to get to grips with the basics quickly while providing the power and flexibility needed to drive long-term understanding of what is now a pivotal aspect when delivering content online, directly to your audience.

“We are about to enter the Freemium market with our first original title and are positioning analytics at its heart. We considered multiple analytics offerings but, with their flexible approach, Setgo made a great impression on us from the start. In the end, Setgo won us over with their service Setgo Analytics, as it allows much greater flexibility to track what’s important to us and delivers actionable insights into player behaviour with much finer detail than we previously thought possible. We are looking forward to increasingly leveraging those insights across our entire organisation and making Setgo Analytics an integral part of our development strategy.” said Greg Robinson, COO at Connect2Media.

Clemens Wangerin, Co-founder and Managing Director of Setgo added “We are delighted to welcome Connect2Media, one of the leading UK-based publishers of mobile content, as Tier 1 Partner of Setgo Analytics. In addition to industry standard features like Funnels, Cohorts, Referrers and AB Testing, we pride ourselves on offering an analytics solution that offers our customers a wide range of additional benefits. One such benefit is the ability to track and analyse users within the same app across all required platforms from one unified view. This partnership also validates the platform-agnostic nature of our API, which ensures that Setgo Analytics meets the objectives of Connect2Media, and our other customers, regardless of which online platform they choose to adopt today or in the future.”

Setgo Analytics secures first signing with Soshi Games

Rising social game developer joins early access program to use Setgo’s new
platform-agnostic games analytics software in forthcoming game ‘Music Festivals’.

LIVERPOOL, England – December 5, 2011 – In a deal announced today, Setgo confirms that Birmingham-based Soshi Games has signed as Tier 1 Technology Partner, the early access program to Setgo Analytics, the first platform-agnostic games analytics software for all online gaming platforms. Today’s news follows Setgo’s announcement last month regarding two pivotal appointments of Andy Tait and Arne Peters to its executive and strategic team and marks a new partnership between two emerging companies.

Since inception, Setgo has focussed exclusively on online gaming platforms that support iterative development. The company decided to offer its unique analytics software to other developers under commercial license after identifying that developer’s changing needs were not being met by existing packages in the market. In response, Setgo Analytics has been developed from the ground-up as a flexible and powerful analytics platform to support developers, publishers and platform holders, regardless of which formats they choose to adopt. “That was part of the appeal for us”, explains Soshi Games CEO Kevin Corti. “We were confident in Setgo’s ability to deliver great software and the fact that the tools were made by developers for developers made Setgo Analytics even more attractive.”

Soshi Games next title ‘Music Festivals’ embraces the free-to-play model and fuses it with a different approach to other social games in the market, as players can help generate revenues for their favourite artists, discover new talent and help with brand exposure. With a marketing supported launch on Facebook due in the coming weeks, ‘Music Festivals’ promises to give gaming and music fans alike a new and unique experience. Soshi Director Cliff Dennett explains, “It’s an exciting project with incredible scope and platform opportunities, so it was vital to choose an analytics package which could support this. We’re confident Setgo Analytics will provide us with all the information we need to support the iterative development plans for ‘Music Festivals’ and undertake our future analysis of its branded virtual goods.”

“It has become increasingly important for developers to adapt to new online platforms and revenue models. We understand this, and want to equip developers with relevant, powerful and flexible tools that help them through the transition from the “launch and forget” ethos to truly iterative game development,” says Clemens Wangerin, Co-founder and Managing Director of Setgo. “With Setgo Analytics, our customers are able to leverage game analytics across all areas of their game that are relevant and important to them, not just those deemed important by so called experts. In addition, the level of customisation we offer makes tracking of even the most specific and unique metrics a breeze.”

Setgo enters next phase of growth

Setgo’s team of co-founders joined by experienced duo Andy Tait and Arne Peters
to accelerate growth and strengthen strategic operations

LIVERPOOL, England – November 7, 2011 – Setgo Limited, developer and licensor of Setgo Analytics, the world’s first platform-agnostic games analytics package for all online gaming platforms, today announces that its team of co-founders has been strengthened by the appointment of Andy Tait as Non-Executive Director and Arne Peters as Strategic Advisor. Both will support the company in its endeavours to accelerate growth and increase Setgo’s activities across Europe in the coming months.

Setgo was founded by Jason Chown, Christian Lavoie and Clemens Wangerin, three game development professionals who worked together for many years as part of the executive management team at Sony Computer Entertainment’s Studio Liverpool. Right from the start, Setgo has focussed exclusively on online gaming platforms that support iterative development and emergent business models such as Free To Play with virtual goods or In-App purchasing. Part of their early endeavours and their entire focus going forward has been the development of Setgo Analytics, which was first used in their own title “Castaways” on Facebook, hi5 and its own standalone URL.  Setgo Analytics is now already being used by a select number of Tier 1 Technology Partners, ahead of its commercial release.

Clemens Wangerin, Setgo’s Managing Director, said “Although as co-founders the three of us have over 50 years of games industry experience between us, we’ve always worked towards a point where we would complement this experience with people of Andy’s and Arne’s standing in order to take Setgo to the next level. We are very lucky to have found two people that not only bring a wealth of market knowledge and skills in growth management and strategic planning to Setgo but are also a perfect fit on a team level. Our plans for Setgo are ambitious and bold, and we are delighted to be supported in executing and shaping those plans by two people of such high calibre.”

Andy Tait joins Setgo through Pembridge Partners, a boutique advisor business specialising in guiding companies to high growth. Andy’s career in the games industry stretches back to 1984 in retail management with HMV through publishing at Virgin Games and then co-founding Superscape, the developer and publisher of ground-breaking games across multiple platforms, which grew from 4 people to a worldwide business with a full listing on the London Stock Exchange. “I am delighted to be working with such a talented team who as professional game developers have identified a real need in the market, which they are addressing with the most powerful, developer-focused analytics platform available. Together we are working to build a great company on a global scale”, said Andy.

Arne Peters started in the industry over 20 years ago. During that time he has held positions with Nintendo, Atari, CDV and Intel where his responsibilities included strategic planning and business co-operations for online and mobile services in EMEA. Arne is based in Munich, Germany and brings with him an extensive network of industry contacts in this important European market and beyond.

Arne said “Our industry is at a pivotal moment, where online business models such as Free-To-Play and In-App Purchasing, and in-depth tracking and understanding of player behaviour increasingly combine to generate the lion’s share of revenues for developers, publishers and platform holders. Setgo’s unique platform-agnostic technology is relevant to all three, regardless of which platform or format they choose to adopt, and therefore in a great position to fulfil a growing market need. I am very excited to be working with the talented team at Setgo.”

Setgo will be at the Browser Games Forum 2011 taking place November 18th and 19th in Germany. To book a demonstration of Setgo Analytics at BFG 2011, please get in touch at info[at]setgogames[dot]com . Winner of 2011 BAFTA “Ones To Watch” joins Setgo Limited
Thomas Finlay joins “Castaways” developer together with Simon Turner
following successful application to Abertay University’s Prototype Fund.

LIVERPOOL, England – May 5, 2011 – Following its successful application to the Abertay Prototype Fund, Setgo Limited announces that it has been joined by two Graduates through the Abertay Talent Pool to work on Castaways, a social RPG where players are stranded on a mysterious island and must survive, prosper and maybe even escape. The game is currently available on Facebook and will be launched on other platforms soon.

Thomas Finlay, winner of the 2011 BAFTA “Ones To Watch” Award for his work with That Game Studio and a recent graduate of the University of Abertay Dundee, has taken up the position of Game Designer on Castaways and is contributing to the development of new game features, the ongoing improvement of the player experience and the creation of new story arcs, game activities, player goals and items to collect.

“Being part of the team that won the 2011 BAFTA Ones To Watch was a fantastic experience and joining the talented team at Setgo almost immediately afterwards to work on Castaways has broadened my horizons even more. I’m keen to break into the games industry full-time and so being part of such a closely-knit team that’s lead by 3 industry veterans is giving me some very valuable experience and insights”, said Thomas.

Simon Turner, a graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University, joins the team as UI Artist/Graphic Designer and is closely involved in revising the UI (User Interface), creating new game content and collaborating on defining new features that drive engagement.

“Although I wouldn’t class myself as your typical gamer, being in a position where I can bring my artistic skills to bear on a game that’s played by thousands of people on Facebook is a very rewarding experience. It allows me to learn a lot of new things about the use of art in games that I didn’t know before. My portfolio will also be expanded significantly, which is going to stand me in good stead for the future”, said Simon.

Both graduates work closely with Christian Lavoie, Creative Director, and the man responsible for setting the overall creative direction and visual style of Castaways. Christian said “Having Thomas and Simon as part of our team brings great benefits to both sides and we are very pleased that the Abertay Prototype Fund has made it possible for us to secure two such talented individuals. They are a great addition to the team and we are looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labour in the game.”

Clemens Wangerin, Managing Director, adds “Gaining support from Abertay’s Prototype Fund has been instrumental in allowing us to push Castaways further than we would have been able to otherwise. We also strongly believe in helping talented people break into the industry, especially at a time when these opportunities are becoming increasingly rare.”

Setgo develops and publishes tools and digital content for open and connected platforms such as social gaming networks like Facebook or hi5, iOS and Android Smart Phones & Tablets as well as browser online games. Setgo is proud to be at the forefront of a new wave of independent developers that have started up in the North West of England in the last 18 months.

All 3 founders have a background in AAA, boxed product game development from their time of working together as part of the executive management team that lead Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s Studio Liverpool. However, Setgo has taken a platform agnostic stance to its games and its suite of in-house tools and has embraced all open, connected and social gaming platforms as their immediate platforms of choice.

“It would have been easy for us to simply stick with console games development but we formed Setgo with some seriously clever technology and games in mind that just aren’t viable on consoles right now. We also saw many new opportunities away from consoles that allow us to merge our deep understanding and appreciation of traditional games development with the new business models, iterative approach and service-based thinking of games development on open, connected and social gaming platforms”, said Clemens Wangerin, Managing Director.

A core component of Setgo’s technologies is Setgo Analytics, a platform agnostic game analytics tool that enables the tracking and evaluation of users as they play a game. Jason Chown, Technical Director, said “Over the last year we have invested heavily in developing a suite of online tools and technologies that allows us to develop, deploy, analyse and iterate quickly. The ability of Setgo Analytics to track player actions across multiple platforms means we are able to build up a clear picture of how the audience interacts with our games. The flexibility and deep richness of our analytics tools makes it the ideal choice for any developer operating in the online/social gaming space.”

Setgo has recently released hi5 and standalone browser versions of Castaways and is currently working on new core technologies for use in several unannounced future projects. “Developing games for these new and emerging platforms is wildly different from traditional boxed products. Our offerings evolve and improve rapidly and organically in response to actual player activity rather than on internal pre-release speculation. Instead of yearly revisions we now find ourselves updating and releasing new game content or features on a weekly basis. Merging this experience and insights into new and fresh platforms with our already solid background in AAA game production is putting us in a very good place to tackle the changing face of the games industry”, added Christian Lavoie, Creative Director.
